The Piped Piper of Orchard Road
Yesterday, sausagelips and I were trawling the town for some winter wear for my forthcoming USA trip in December. After a long lull from shopping therapies, our shopping stamina has detoriated considerably. Therefore, when I suggested walking to Centerpoint's Robinsons (to look for some warm inner thermal wear), he gave a grimace and an audible groan.

SL: HUH... Very far leh.
Me: Aiyah, walk abit further only. (Since we were at Heeren)
SL: But the car is parked at Liat Towers!

Ah, he had a point. My legs were feeling a bit sore then. I could manage walking to Centerpoint, but walking bare is definitely a chore. So I sensibly decided not to go. However..

Outside Heeren, we suddenly witnessed a swelling crowd gathering.

SL: LET'S JOIN IN! *enthusiastic*

I must clarify I am never a CROWD-sort of person. If you ever see me participating in a sort of swarm-behavior, you must understand that I MUST BE coerced.

So anyway, we stood among the crowds of curious cats and observed a troop of military police on motorbikes as well as a band of smartly-uniformed personnel waiting to play their instruments.

SL: THERE IS A BAND!! *more enthusiastic*
Me: Uh huh. (Thinking: Can we go?)

Suddenly, the whole troop marched down towards the Orchard busy street, stopping traffic. The progression started their march towards the direction of Istana, I would think. Amazingly, the whole crowd of onlookers began to follow. In fact, some of them were running.

SL: COME ON! LET'S FOLLOW!
Me: Have you gone mad? *Incredulous*
SL: LET'S FIND OUT WHERE THEY ARE GOING!
Me: I just now asked you to walk to Centerpoint, you said it's so far. And now you are telling me you are willing to WALK TO ISTANA because of them? *pointing incredulously at the marching troop*
SL: Oh yah hor. (Looks as though my words have just knocked him out from a spell)

We both stood and looked at people running after the troop. You would think there are some super stars in town they were racing after. It is exactly like the Piped Piper of Hameln, except this scene is repeating in our very own Orchard Road.

Next time a terrorist wants to attack, all they have to do is carry a flute or some sort of band instruments, march down Orchard Road towards whatever destructive fate beheld by their curious followers. Singaporeans are just very warped.

when it rains, it pours
I totally DETEST reformatting my computers because it is dreadful chore. I am absolutely disorganized and my files are always in disarray.

However, my laptop was giving me loads of problem, to the extent of not being able to open a trivial WORD document. No matter how I tried to blind myself from its pathetic state, it finally dawned on me that I have to resorted to the torturous task of reformatting.

FINE! FINE! I spent a long time organizing my files, deciding which to back up, borrowing CDs from the school, etc.

After a long week, and hours of spending my holidays in school download software, my laptop became alive and young once more.

Hooray. I am (was) happy.

So, I changed my msn nick to announce my laptop's new lease of life.

My friend, on noticing my nick, began a conversation on his laptop.

MSF (My 'Shuay' Friend): Eh, your laptop okie liao har?
Me: YES!!!!!
MSF: You know, my laptop siao siao liao.
MSF: Just now right, suddenly no power. Then I had to plug and replug again. Mad right?
Me: Aiyah, you never plug properly lah. Where got suddenly no power one.

With that, I turned back to watch America's Next Top Model.

On the next commercial break, I turned back to my laptop. A message screened across, indicating low battery life.

BUT MY LAPTOP IS RUNNING ON THE ELECTRICITY STRAIGHT FROM THE ADAPTOR!!!!!!!

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I plugged and unplugged. I plugged and unplugged. Tried all the power ports. TO NO AVAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME!?

After all that time I spent on my laptop, it just decided to die!!!!!!!!!! My adaptor just died like that.

MY FRIEND MUST HAVE JINXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Bangs head against the wall*

Feeling Jinxed
Ahh. This is one of those days where I feel there is a black cloud hovering over me, drenching me whereever I go. Gah.

Firstly, the laptop incident (aptly illustrated by my outburst in previous entry). Well, and many many other things that can't seem to go smoothly. It is just so frustrating!

Amidst the unlucky phases, at least my flu vaccination went rather well. Hitherto, at least. It was rather uneventful, except for the appearance of a rather nervous-looking and twitchy guy.

He alighted at the same bus stop, and both of us made our way to the clinic. However, he seemed so jittery and out-of-minds, he didn't seem to know where to queue. So..

I rounded a pillar and cut in front of him. HA HA HA!

So evil, right.

Anyway, he didn't seem to mind or protest. In fact, I think he purposely acted blur and let him go first. So the nurse attended to me first and took registration details. Another nurse soon appeared and asked Mr Twitch to register too.

He started speaking in fast-speed Mandarin. Ahh. A PRC.

He spoke so fast, I think the nurse had difficulty comprehending. And then, he raised his voice and said "...results of HIV!"

Hmmm.

Interesting.

Is it normal for people to take HIV tests regularly? Is it a pre-employment requirement? Or is it a specific test?

Hmmm.

Incredibly Shuttering
Ah. So I indulged in more movies than usual this week.

I caught Shutter with my cousin last weekend because Sausagelips simply refused to let me watch The Incredibles with her. So there we went, 2 girls, off to a midnight horror movie. Since there was a surge of crappy Japanese/Korean horror movies recently, I wasn't quite prepared to be spooked. But I was.

The spooky scenes just continued one after another, to the extent I was quite immune to their appearance after a while. My cousin began hovering nearer to me as the movie progressed. HA! Anyhow, spooks aside, I think the story is quite good! Not the typical storyless, confusing arty fartsy japanese horror movies. Go watch it!

Yesterday, I watched The Incredibles. It was rather funny, except I kept getting distracted by the couple in front of me smooching every 5 mins. It will be like 5-10 minutes of movie conversations, followed by a loud "MUAcK!" Very distracting. It doesn't help when the guy is quite tall, with his (big) head blocking part of my screen. It is not as if I have powers of elastigirl to stretch my neck abit higher. Bah.

Ah. Haven't enjoyed good movies for a long time. The last movies - Ladder 49, Bourne Supremcy, Shark Tale.. were rather mediocre.

Ridiculous Self-Entertainment
Ridiculous Pictures!!!!!.

They are so ridiculous, they will need permission from me to be viewed. So it's either you already knew the password from previous picture access, or you have to ask!

我的木乃伊凉快和
I was reading some blogs when I stumbled upon a funny site from her.

I followed her instruction, typed in the words "My mum is cool and nice!" into the translation box. Instead of "English to Spanish", I decided to tried my mother tongue instead - "English to Chinese".

The electronic translator ate up the words, digested and spitted out the following "translated" version:

"我的木乃伊凉快和好!"

....

Doesn't that sound so freaking crude? Imagine a blissfully ignorant non-Chinese trying to communicate with his Chinese pen-pal, using these words to describe his mother. That will be catastrophic. Can we sue google for the trauma and embarassment it will cause? Heh heh.

Anyhoo, what's a "木乃伊"? An eygptian mummy? Sounds a little like papaya milk.. Hmm.
